Now that it’s March, you might be planning on doing a thorough spring cleaning! From cleaning out your closet to dusting the countertops, there are plenty of ways to tidy up your living space to start the year off fresh. But have you considered updating your dental hygiene? Keep reading to learn four tips to smarten up your teeth cleaning routine this season.

Tip #1: Check the Expiration Dates

Just as your foods and drinks expire after some time, so do your teeth cleaning products. It’s important to switch out any that are past their date and to start afresh. This way you can ensure your toothpaste and mouthwash are effective at removing plaque and bacteria. You may even take the chance to use something new and different for your smile!

Tip #2: Replace Your Toothbrush

Now that the winter holidays are over, it might be the right time to update your trusty toothbrush. It’s recommended that you replace yours every three to four months since the bristles can become frayed or worn down. However, you don’t have to go for another regular brush again. Look for one with softer bristles, as you’ll want to protect your teeth from enamel loss and receding gums. Additionally, you can use a powered toothbrush which can give you the extra motion for removing particles.

Tip #3: Wash Your Toothbrush Container

While your toothbrush rests in its container, it could also be exposed to the same germs as all the other surfaces in your bathroom. The longer the holder sits there, the more likely you could spread bacteria to your mouth. To avoid any issues with this, you can always run it through the dishwasher or wipe it down with disinfectant once or twice a week!

Tip #4: Set Up a Professional Teeth Cleaning

If you really want to start on the right foot forward with your smile, then visiting your dentist for a teeth cleaning is the perfect option. They can provide a professional polishing to remove stubborn stains as well as thoroughly clean your gums for gum disease prevention. They’ll also examine your mouth to detect and treat any growing problems to keep your dental health in good condition.

This spring, you can take charge of your dental hygiene for fresh pearly whites. And if you want more advice on how you can make the most of your teeth spring cleaning, your dentist is more than happy to help!
